Rajasthan, meaning “The Abode of the Rajas,” was formerly called Rajputana, “The Country of the Rajput’s”. In 1947 the state took the name Rajasthan. Jaipur, its capital is known for its majestic palaces, forts and monuments.

  • Bapu Bazaar (Jaipur)
Bapu Bazaar is very near to Johari bazaar the most popular of all is the mojari or Rajasthani traditional footwear Rajasthani textiles, colorful traditional sarees, lehenga and perfumes are a highlight of this market.

The market is open on all weekdays from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
  • Clock Tower Market (Jodhpur)
At Clock tower market, you will get all the exotic local spices – fresh and full of aroma. Some other famous items like antiques, handicraft and dyed clothes are also sold here.

Market is active between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM on all days.
  • Nai Sadak (Jodhpur)
The famous art of Jodhpur – bandhani is showcased across the market. The bandhani which is a tie-and-dye product using soft cloth, is a mark of Rajasthan’s tradition and exuberance.

  • Bada Bazar (Udaipur)
Traditional lehenga-cholis, saris, shoes, antique pieces of art, dyed clothes, leather goods and traditional jewellery – everything at one place.

  • Decors of Hathi Pol Bazaar (Udaipur)

This market is located near the Udaipur city palace the streets covered with the most elegant and well-crafted Rajasthani paintings, miniature paintings, colorful folk toys, smiling puppets, embroidered leather shoes and other souvenirs that will take you to a different era all together.
There are also Chetak circle and Shilpgram, which are a must-visit if you want to buy some traditional handicraft items. Chetak circle is famous for old-style jewellery boxes, salutation cards and precious stones and Shilpgram has all hand-made items like pottery, clothing and so on.

  • Sadar Bazar (Jaisalmer)
The specialty of Sadar Bazar is its silver ornaments and mojaris made of camel leather. There are different types of jewellery items, wood-carved items, handicraft shawls, garments with heavy mirror work and many more products for guests to check out. All the items exhibit the grandeur and grace of Rajasthan which is why this market is highly recommended for everyone in Jaisalmer.

  • Mahatma Gandhi Road (Bikaner)
This is a street market full of shining bangles, sparkling and shining mojaris and lehengas that have heavy glass embroidery. Bikaner till date remains famous for its lip-smacking snacks including sweets, bhujia and papads that are available in this market.

The market is open every day from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
  • Kote Gate (Bikaner)

The market has variety of shops that have maintained the standard of quality over all these years and offer traditional open toed shoes for men, exemplary Rajasthani paintings, khadi kurtas and other handicraft items. Kote gate market is most famous for its unique Kundan designs.
There is also another market very close to Kote gate known as Station Road market which is popular for leather jackets, leather jootis and leather chairs.

This market is open on all week days between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

  • Sarafa Bazar (Pushkar)
Pushkar is known for its rich, colorful and extravagant past. Sarafa bazar offers the most beautiful Indian ethnic wear along with unique and stylish bangles, silver jewellery and mojari. There are two other markets in Pushkar, Kedalganj market and Sadar Bazar, which showcase some of the best marble statues, leather items and puppets.

Rajasthan Cuisine

Rajasthanis are very proud of their food and love to add details in their preparation their food reflects their climatic situation (arid region). Every food could last for several days without reheating. Rajasthani cuisine is also influenced by the Rajputs, who are predominantly non-vegetarians. Sweet dishes are never referred to as ‘dessert’ in Rajasthan, because unlike desserts which are served after the meal, Rajasthani sweets are served before, during and after the meal.

  • Mohan Maas

  • Bajre ki roti
It is millet bread which is very widely consumed by the Rajasthanis.
  • Pyaaz Kachori

  • Bikaneri Bhujia
It is a crispy snack prepared using besan and spices (from Bikaner).

Bhangarh fort is known as most haunted places in Rajasthan. Earlier it was a royal palace but now archaeologists forbids to visits there after sunset.

The Thar Desert is approximately 120,000 sq. mt. in the area of which 90% is in India and rest 10% is in Pakistan. This desert forms a border line between Pakistan and India.
