Welcome to Nepal! You'll be warmly greeted with a traditional flower garland. Time to rest before this afternoon's briefing by your Tour Manager, describing the sensational experiences that await you in Nepal. Meet Everest Trekker Begin the day with a tour of Kathmandu City, capital of Nepal. Visit Durbar Square, an amazing cluster of ancient temples and palaces epitomizing the religious and cultural life of the people. Stop at sprawling Hanuman Dhoka, ancient palace of Nepalese Royalty and the Temple of Kumari, home to Nepal's most important living goddess. See the stone carved statue of ferocious Kal Bhairav, a colorful memorial to the Hindu God of destruction, followed by a visit to the magnificent Temple of the Goddess Taleju. On the way to Swayambhunath we'll visit a nearby school to meet some Nepalese children and learn about the school system here before returning to the hotel if times allows.
Explore Bhaktapur, Traditional Village Themed Lunch After a morning at leisure, experience the rich culture and hospitality of the Nepalese people as we enjoy a traditional Village inspired lunch. Afternoon excursion to the medieval city of Bhaktapur, known as the "City of Devotees," named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk along the maze of winding streets lined with homes and temples dating back to the 13th century. Marvel at the intricately carved deities of the richly molded Golden Gate and the Palace of Fifty-Five Windows, with its exquisite wood carvings. See the Lion's Gate with its guarding lion statues and Nyatpola, the five-storied 17th century temple in Taumadhi Square as well as the astonishing Bhairab Temple.
Explore Temples and Stupas, Cooking Lesson Late this morning depart for Pashupatinath. Today, lunch will be accompanied by a cooking demonstration of Momos, delicate dumplings that are filled with vegetables or meat. Afterward, we embark upon a spiritual journey to one of the most sacred Hindu shrines in the world, attracting thousands of pilgrims each year. The Temple, on the banks of the holy Bagmati River, a tributary of the Ganges, is renowned for its beautiful architecture. Home to Kathmandu's funeral ghats, a series of cremation platforms are spread along the river. You’ll experience throngs of devotees, meditating and praying on the steps throughout the temple. Next, we visit Boudhanath, the largest Stupa of its kind in the world.
In the morning drive to Pokhara's World Peace Pagoda. A short boat ride and trek leads us to this pristine, white stupa created by a Japanese monk, who was inspired by the peaceful teachings of Gandhi. After lunch at a local restaurant, stop at the International Mountaineering Museum, where exhibits shed light on all phases of mountaineering and the alpine culture. This fitting collection is of great interest in a country dominated by hikers and trekkers. The museum is in a perfect location, surrounded by the stunning Annapurna mountain range - a favorite place for adventurers. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure back at the hotel. Tonight, we're guests of a local Pokhara family for a delicious home-cooked dinner.
Explore Patan Morning flight to Kathmandu. Upon Arrival, an excursion to the ancient city of Patan, known as the "City of Fine Arts". Our tour of the city visits the main square, filled with Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments. See the grand Royal Palace, which dominates all others in grace and grandeur and the 16th century Krishna Mandir, made entirely of stone, with its 21 pinnacles dedicated to Lord Krishna. Other landmarks include the Golden Temple, and the terra-cotta temple of Mahabouddha. On to our hotel, with time to rest and freshen up before tonight's festivities. A very special home hosted farewell dinner has been arranged just for us --a perfect conclusion to our wonderful journey through Nepal. We bid farewell to our tour manager.
A morning free for last-minute exploration. As we depart our hotel, a "khada" will be placed on you, symbolizing a safe journey back home. (A Khada is a traditional ceremonial scarf used in Nepal & Tibet that symbolizes purity, goodwill, auspiciousness and compassion).
